Life Youth Outreach Program
Planning for the Future
In
2001-2002 London Pro Musica and London Life, the corporate sponsor
of LPM’s concert season, initiated the High School Outreach
Program. Up to 20% of the tickets for our regular season concerts
were made available to students through the Music Departments of
London and regional high schools at a nominal cost of $2.00 each.
This new program, sponsored and subsidized by London Life, expanded
upon London Pro Musica’s long-standing practice of granting
free admission to children 12 and under.
Because of this program’s success, LPM has worked gradually
to make it more inclusive. As of 2003-2004, the program has a broader
base and a new name, London Life Youth Outreach Program: all elementary
students over the age of 12 & all secondary students will be
admitted to LPM’s concerts for $2.00 at the door (with the
presentation of student ID); in addition, ticket prices for university
& college students have been reduced to 50% of the regular adult
admission price.
London has a strong and deep tradition of choral singing in a Province
and Country that are themselves noted for strong choral traditions.
Those traditions will survive only if we can demonstrate to young
listeners that the traditions are worth continuing, only if we can
convince today’s young listeners to become tomorrow’s
participants—as singers, as musicians, as composers, as informed
audience members. |
